Parks Day 2018
Saturday, July 21st Eagle Point- Blue Rapids Parks Council hosted our eleventh annual Parks Day! Parks Day here at Eagle Point-Blue Rapids Parks was a great success! The weather cooperated for the majority of the day and allowed everyone to enjoy all the fun activities. We owe many thanks to our member recreational groups and all the wonderful volunteers who came out to support all those who participated in the event.
Eagle Point–Blue Rapids Parks Council would like to thank operators Scott and Sherri, and the rest of the staff at Willey West for the use of the campground for the event. Parks Day would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the wonderful staff at Willey West Campground who prepared the campground and spent the whole day helping us with whatever was needed. We are so grateful to have had them aboard on Parks Day.
Eagle Point–Blue Rapids Parks Council would also like to thank Bryan Mckay, Danielle Titanich and all those from the Drayton Valley Paddling Club, Denis Poissant and the volunteers from the Brazeau ATV Club, and Wayne Stec and the volunteers from the West Central Riverboat Association for providing our Parks Day participants with activities to enjoy. We heard many positive comments from so many people, whether they paddled down the North Saskatchewan River, rode the ATV trails, or enjoyed a jet boat ride on the river.
A special thank you to Rose Letourneau for offering her expertise on the mushroom foray, Al Flamand who performed a traditional Tipi Ceremony, the Strawberry Jammers for the musical entertainment, and the Morning Star First Nations Drummers and Dancers for their performance. It was an honour to have all of you be a part of Parks Day this year.
Eagle Point – Blue Rapids Parks Council would like to send a big thank you to ATCO for being a major sponsor for the event and sending their crew to cook the delicious hotdogs and burgers for the Parks Day barbeque! The meal was fantastic!
Our annual Parks Day would not have been possible without all the support and generous donations from our event sponsors, All Choice Rentals, Weyerhaeuser, McDonalds, IGA, Jocelyn’s Your Independent Grocers, M&M Meat Shop, Pembina Pipeline, Family & Community Support Services, Brazeau County, Town of Drayton Valley, DVHTA, Drayton Valley Community Foundation, and Alberta Environment and Parks.
This year we had about 400 people join us for our free community BBQ! Thank you to all who attended, we love seeing this event grow year after year. We look forward to seeing you next year at our 12th annual Parks Day.
